Hi, My name is Carlene, I have a partner called Dave. We decided to add to our family by getting a rotti pup.
Zara gave our family a lot of joy. We also have a 5 yr old bichon frise (missy).
Zara loves to play with Missy, not sure if Missy likes it. Her favorite thing to do is play with the toilet paper and skateboard.
At nearly 5 months old Zara left front leg just didn’t look right and after going for some walk she would be limping. A trip to the vets and a x ray showed that she had broken her leg about 4-6 weeks ago. She showed no signs of having a broken leg. She was limping because her leg stop growing. The vet said they could try to fix it but wasn’t sure if it would work as she broke it in growth plate and her leg had stop growing The other choice was to remove it. Dave and myself spent a lot of time looking on you tube at other rottweiler dogs with 3 legs. So this is where Zara story really begins.
what a cutie pie zara is!!! sorry to hear about her leg, but she’s lucky to have a great family and such a nice big sister to help her get through all this. welcome to the tripawd family!!

Welcome, Carlene. What a sweetheart you have in Zara!!
Welcome Zara, thanks for sharing your story, you look like a real sweetheart!
As your folks already know, Rotties can do great on three legs. We’re sure you will too! Keep us posted on how things go, and remember you have a pawesome community here who can help every hop of the way (not that you’ll need much help but just in case).
Tripawds rule! Welcome to the club.
Welcome to Tripawds and thank you for sharing Zara’s story! We’re sorry to hear about her amputation, but look forward to following her three legged adventures.
Hi Carlen,
So sorry to hear about Zara’s problem with her leg. She is absolutely adorable… and so is Missy. 🙂
You must have read by now all the posts and blogs about so many other Rotties and other dogs that had to have their leg amputated… so you know by now that they do quite well with only 3 legs. The fact that Zara doesn’t have to deal with cancer on top of that… and she’s pretty young, she should recover quickly and live a long and happy life as a tripawd!
It’s a good idea to invest in a ruffware harness for Zara. It really comes in handy for both the dog and its pawrents! The first two weeks after amputation surgery are usually the hardest… Zara will be on pain meds and that might make her loopy. It’s very important to try and keep her from overexerting herself too much the first two weeks while she’s recovering from the surgery. It may be a bit difficult since she’s still a puppy… but it’s best for her in the long run. Since she’s a large breed dog and will have to bear all her weight on her remaining 3 legs, it’s a good idea to start thinking about supplements such as glucosamine/chondroitin, etc… to help support her joints.
I’m looking forward to reading all about her and seeing more pictures of her after her surgery!
Sending Zara (OK and Missy too) a big fat hug!! 🙂

Your Zara is beautiful. I hope the surgery goes well and the recovery is uneventful. Look at Cemil’s blog to see how he runs–he’s a big dog too, with his left front leg amputated. It took him a little longer than the 2 weeks to get his feet under him again, but he did it and Zara will too.
